About the Role

The Software Engineering Manager will provide strategic technical leadership and spearhead the development of modern engineering practices that will shape the future of engineering with WorkCover. The role provides strategic direction, technical guidance and leadership to the teams of software engineering, application security and quality engineering. You will lead and oversee these teams to deliver high-quality software solutions that meet business objectives and customer needs.

The Software Engineering Manager serves as a dedicated strategic technical partner, a people-focused leader and collaborator, advocating both within and beyond the organisation. This strategic role is instrumental in overseeing the present and future of its people, supporting the technical leadership and growth of the software development lifecycle. With a keen focus on resourcing effectively and nurturing the right skills and capabilities for current and future needs, it drives continuous improvement, while uplifting capabilities to adopt iterative ways of working that focus on delivering value often and early.

The role entails a multifaceted focus, encompassing strategic technology planning and solutions, budget management, vendor relationship management and commercial stewardship. The ideal candidate will adopt a commercial approach to software and quality engineering, striking a balance between building, buying and partnering, ensuring that both business and fiscal outcomes are achieved and tailored appropriately to the organisation’s needs.

A Bit About You

  • Proven track record of effectively leading software and quality engineering teams of comparable scale, delivering strategic planning and solutions across diverse mobile and cloud platforms, within a similar-sized organisational context
  • Proven skills and experience in leading and managing technical software and quality engineering talent while implementing quality engineering practice and iterative delivery methodologies and techniques
  • Well-developed capabilities in the areas of talent management, stakeholder relationship management, and fostering successful vendor and or third-party partnerships
  • Applies a commercial and pragmatic approach to balance risk management and budgets, supported by effective financial management, workforce establishment, records management, risk management, and audit controls.
