WorkCover Queensland is entering an exciting new chapter, guided by a renewed strategic focus and strong executive leadership shaping our 2030 Strategy. We’re embarking on an enterprise-wide transformation to strengthen our impact and continue making a positive difference in people’s lives.
The Opportunity
We're looking for a Senior Payroll Compliance Specialist to become the technical expert behind payroll compliance, governance and continuous improvement across a large and complex workforce.
This is not your typical payroll processing role. You'll be the go-to expert for interpreting Certified Agreements, managing compliance risks, reviewing payroll practices and ensuring legislative changes are accurately reflected within payroll systems and processes.
Working closely with payroll leadership, you'll help drive initiatives ranging from annual rate increases, backpay calculations and remediation programs through to audits, system enhancements and payroll governance reviews. You'll also play a key role in supporting and developing the payroll team by providing technical guidance on complex payroll matters.
If you enjoy digging into payroll data, solving complex problems, improving processes and ensuring employees are paid correctly and compliantly, this role offers the opportunity to make a genuine impact.
About You
You're more than an experienced payroll professional. You're the person people turn to when payroll gets complicated.
You have strong end-to-end payroll experience and a deep understanding of Awards, Certified Agreements and payroll legislation. You're comfortable navigating complex reconciliations, investigating historical payroll issues and translating legislative requirements into practical payroll solutions.
You enjoy combining technical expertise with problem-solving and are motivated by finding better ways of doing things.
You'll bring:
- Significant end-to-end payroll experience within a large and complex organisation.
- Strong knowledge of Awards, Certified Agreements, payroll legislation, taxation and superannuation requirements.
- Experience managing complex reconciliations, backpay calculations, remediation activities and terminations.
- Confidence interpreting industrial instruments and implementing payroll changes arising from legislative or agreement updates.
- Advanced Excel skills and the ability to analyse large volumes of payroll data.
- Experience supporting audits, compliance reviews and payroll governance activities.
- A continuous improvement mindset with the ability to identify risks, strengthen controls and improve processes.
- Excellent stakeholder engagement skills and the ability to explain complex payroll matters clearly.
- Experience with TechnologyOne and/or the Queensland Public Sector will be highly regarded, but is not essential.
Most importantly, you're someone who enjoys being the technical expert in the room and wants to influence how payroll compliance is delivered into the future.
