Work type: Fixed Term - Full Time
Location: Brisbane CBD

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Senior Financial Accountant to join our Financial Reporting team on a fixed-term contract, supporting key reporting, audit and governance activities during a maternity leave period.

WorkCover Queensland is entering an exciting new chapter, guided by a renewed strategic focus and strong executive leadership shaping our 2030 Strategy. We’re embarking on an enterprise-wide transformation to strengthen our impact and continue making a positive difference in people’s lives.

The Opportunity

Join a high-performing finance team in a broad and impactful Senior Financial Accountant role, where you will play a key part in the preparation of statutory financial statements, coordination of external audits, and delivery of high-quality financial reporting. Working across a diverse range of financial activities, you will lead the preparation and enhancement of financial statements, support the implementation of new accounting standards, develop and refine accounting policies, and ensure compliance with relevant legislative and governance requirements. This role offers the opportunity to work on complex accounting matters while contributing to the integrity and transparency of financial reporting.

Beyond core reporting responsibilities, you will partner with stakeholders across the organisation to provide insightful analysis, coordinate audit activities, and contribute to Board and Investment Committee papers. You will also support a range of strategic and ad hoc initiatives, including process improvement projects, governance enhancements, and detailed financial reviews. This is an excellent opportunity for a technically strong accountant who enjoys variety, thrives in a collaborative environment, and is motivated by the chance to influence best practice and drive continuous improvement.

About You:

You are a CPA or CA qualified finance professional with strong technical accounting expertise and proven experience preparing financial statements within a large and complex organisation. Your background includes coordinating external audits and working through complex accounting and compliance matters, with a sound understanding of accounting standards, governance frameworks, and legislative requirements. You are confident interpreting and applying technical guidance, while ensuring financial reporting obligations are met to a consistently high standard.

A proactive and collaborative team player, you are always willing to roll up your sleeves and contribute wherever needed. You bring a continuous improvement mindset, challenging existing processes and identifying opportunities to strengthen controls, governance, and reporting outcomes. Experience gained in a large corporate, financial services, government, or similarly complex environment will be highly regarded, while exposure to TechnologyOne would be advantageous but is not essential. Most importantly, you are curious, adaptable, eager to learn, and passionate about delivering quality outcomes that add value to the organisation.
