WorkCover Queensland is entering an exciting new chapter, guided by a renewed strategic focus and strong executive leadership shaping our 2030 Strategy. We’re embarking on an enterprise-wide transformation to strengthen our impact and continue making a positive difference in people’s lives.
The Opportunity
Reporting to the Manager Compliance, the Senior Compliance Specialist plays a critical role in the design and embedment of WorkCover’s enterprise compliance framework, ensuring the organisation meet its regulatory obligations while advancing its purpose of making a positive difference to people’s lives.
In this role, you will contribute to uplifting enterprise compliance maturity, with a particular focus on obligations management. You will take the lead in shaping and enhancing the management approach, ensuring obligations are clearly identified, understood, appropriately owned and supported by effective controls across the business. This includes building on existing capability as well as identifying opportunities to strengthen and embed best practice.
You will work closely with stakeholders across the organisation to support strong governance and risk-aware decision making. The role offers plenty of variety and ownership, with responsibility for leading pieces of work end to end, from interpreting regulatory requirements and mapping obligations, through to uplifting policies, assurance, and practical implementation.
Key aspects of the role include:
- Leading the development and uplift of enterprise compliance capability, including building and maintaining a robust obligations library.
- Enhancing compliance frameworks, policies and practices in line with evolving regulatory expectations
- Supporting the delivery and continuous improvement of the compliance program, including monitoring, reporting and assurance activities
- Providing second line oversight to ensure obligations are understood, owned and effectively managed across the organisation
- Contributing to broader Risk uplift and transformation initiatives
This is an opportunity to apply your expertise in a purpose-driven environment, where strong compliance and governance directly support better outcomes for customers and the community.
About You
You are a compliance or risk professional with proven experience operating in a second line Risk or Compliance function, ideally within a highly regulated environment.
You bring deep expertise in obligations management, including hands-on experience building or significantly enhancing an enterprise-level Compliance framework and obligations management approach. You understand how regulatory requirements translate into clear ownership, controls and governance practices.
You will also demonstrate:
- Experience developing and uplifting compliance frameworks, policies and practices
- Strong capability in building and managing obligations registers/libraries, including mapping and embedding obligations across the business
- A solid understanding of second line risk responsibilities and enterprise risk management
- The ability to work autonomously, confidently leading complex initiatives and driving outcomes
- Excellent stakeholder engagement skills, with the ability to influence and collaborate across all levels
- A background in legal, audit, risk, or a strong commercial discipline (experience in large organisations or consulting environments highly regarded)
- Strong communication and reporting skills, including experience preparing insights for senior leadership
You are confident, proactive and solutions-focused, with a genuine interest in strengthening compliance maturity and contributing to outcomes that matter.
