WorkCover Queensland is entering an exciting new chapter, guided by a renewed strategic focus and strong executive leadership shaping our 2030 Strategy. We’re embarking on an enterprise-wide transformation to strengthen our impact and continue making a positive difference in people’s lives.
The Opportunity
Reporting to the Head of IT Strategy and Business Design, this role is responsible for shaping and embedding WorkCover’s innovation and AI capability. You will define the organisation’s AI roadmap and establish an innovation framework that enables practical, governed adoption of emerging technologies aligned to strategic objectives and risk appetite.
Operating within a highly regulated environment, you will ensure AI and innovation initiatives are introduced safely, with robust governance, risk, and assurance frameworks in place. You will assess organisational readiness, uplift capability, and guide the implementation of AI solutions that deliver measurable value.
Working across technology, business, and governance stakeholders, you will translate strategic intent into actionable initiatives. From identifying and prioritising AI opportunities to supporting proof‑of‑value activities and informed build‑vs‑buy decisions. You will also enable effective demand management, support service transition for AI solutions, and ensure innovation outcomes are measured and aligned to organisational priorities.
This is an opportunity to establish and mature an innovation function, embed AI into enterprise thinking, and influence how the organisation leverages technology to improve outcomes for customers and the community.
About You
You’re a strategic and pragmatic practitioner with strong experience in innovation, AI strategy, or digital transformation, ideally within a regulated or complex environment such as insurance or financial services. You bring a solid understanding of AI technologies, governance requirements, and innovation frameworks, with the ability to translate emerging capabilities into practical, value‑driven outcomes.
You’re comfortable working across both strategy and execution, from shaping AI roadmaps and governance models to supporting delivery, business readiness, and adoption. You bring a structured, analytical approach and are confident engaging with senior stakeholders to provide clear, balanced advice on opportunities, risks, and trade‑offs.
You bring:
- Tertiary qualifications in Information Technology, Data Science, Business or a related discipline (postgraduate qualifications highly regarded)
- Demonstrated experience in innovation management, AI strategy, or digital transformation programs
- Strong working knowledge of AI technologies, innovation frameworks, and industry best practices
- Experience developing and implementing AI strategies, roadmaps, and governance frameworks in regulated environments
- Ability to assess organisational readiness across people, process, technology, and risk
- Experience supporting AI adoption, including demand management, proof‑of‑value, and implementation considerations
- Strong analytical, problem‑solving, and decision‑making capability, with attention to detail and quality
- Proficiency in data‑driven thinking and the ability to evaluate and communicate the value of AI initiatives
- Effective stakeholder engagement skills, with the ability to present complex concepts clearly to both technical and non‑technical audiences
- Strong organisational skills, with the ability to manage competing priorities and deliver outcomes in a fast‑paced environment
If you’re motivated by shaping how organisations responsibly adopt AI and innovation to deliver meaningful impact, this role offers the opportunity to influence at scale and drive lasting change.
