The Opportunity
WorkCover Queensland is continuing to strengthen its digital capability as part of a broader enterprise transformation agenda. Reporting to the Manager Core Business Applications, the Technical Lead plays a key role in shaping how solutions are designed, delivered and operated across core business applications, digital platforms and integration services. This role exists to ensure technical solutions are practical, scalable and aligned to enterprise architecture, while lifting engineering capability and ensuring high‑quality outcomes for the business and its customers.
What You’ll Do
- Lead solution and detailed technical design across applications, integrations and platforms, ensuring alignment with enterprise architecture, security and governance standards
- Translate architectural direction into practical, buildable designs, working closely with architects, delivery teams, vendors and internal stakeholders
- Lead technical decision-making, including evaluating integration approaches and clearly articulating trade-offs across different solutions
- Define and champion strong engineering practices and standards, particularly when working with vendors and implementation partners
- Provide technical oversight of vendor and partner delivery, ensuring solutions meet WorkCover standards and are sustainable, supportable and fit for purpose
- Ensure solutions meet key non-functional requirements including performance, security, scalability and reliability
- Support delivery outcomes by identifying risks, resolving complex technical issues and ensuring solutions meet business requirements for quality and timeliness
- Mentor and guide engineers, uplifting capability and embedding best practices across the team
- Act as a trusted technical advisor, communicating complex problems and solutions clearly to both technical and non-technical stakeholders
About You
- 7+ years’ experience in senior technical or technical leadership roles within complex enterprise environments, ideally within highly regulated industries such as insurance, financial services or government
- Tertiary qualification in Information Technology, Computer Science, or a related discipline (postgraduate qualifications desirable)
- Strong experience in solution design and detailed technical design across enterprise applications, platforms and integration services
- Proven experience working with SaaS or vendor platforms as part of transformation programs
- Hands-on experience designing and delivering integration solutions, with deep knowledge of API-led, event-driven and enterprise integration patterns, and the ability to articulate trade-offs across approaches
- Demonstrated experience influencing technical decisions and working across multiple stakeholders, including vendors and internal teams
- Strong communication skills, with the ability to translate complex technical problems and solutions for different levels of stakeholders
- Experience mentoring or guiding engineers and uplifting engineering capability across teams
