Building WorkCover’s Data Future

As part of this transformation, WorkCover is establishing a new Data Office to uplift data maturity across the organisation. This collaborative, customer centric and outcomes focused function brings together specialist leads across governance and quality, working as one integrated team.

Moving away from a traditional centralised model, the Data Office operates through partnership and collaboration, embedding with business and delivery teams to enable trusted, governed data that supports both business-as-usual excellence and future capability.

The Opportunity

Reporting to the Manager, Data Office, the Lead, Data Office Governance is accountable for ensuring WorkCover’s data is clearly defined, appropriately owned and governed in line with organisational objectives, regulatory requirements and ethical standards.

As the organisation’s authority on data governance, you set direction and provide expert guidance on how data should be managed across its lifecycle. You work across business units and transformation teams to influence decision making, uplift governance capability and ensure governance is embedded into everyday practice enabling data to be managed as a trusted strategic asset.

This is the role people turn to when clarity, structure and confidence are needed in complex data governance decisions.

In this role you will:

  • Lead day to day data governance activities, ensuring consistent application of governance practices across transformation initiatives.
  • Develop, maintain and evolve enterprise data governance frameworks, policies and standards.
  • Provide clear guidance on data ownership, stewardship, metadata, critical data elements and data definitions.
  • Translate governance, regulatory and risk requirements into practical, business friendly guidance.
  • Review new or changing systems, processes and data products to ensure governance, compliance and ethical alignment.
  • Partner with business and delivery teams to embed governance into BAU operations and transformation initiatives.
  • Identify data related risks and work with stakeholders to implement effective mitigation strategies.
  • Monitor compliance with data management policies and standards, escalating risks and issues where appropriate.
  • Define consistent ways of working across BAU and future state activities.
  • Drive continuous improvement and uplift data governance maturity across the organisation.

About You

You’re an experienced data governance leader with a strong understanding of risk, regulation and organisational accountability. You enjoy working across boundaries, providing clear direction and enabling others to apply governance with confidence. You bring:

  • Extensive experience leading data governance practices in complex or regulated environments.
  • Strong knowledge of data governance frameworks, privacy, information security and regulatory obligations.
  • Proven experience establishing or maturing enterprise wide data governance frameworks.
  • Confidence guiding data owners and stewards to embed governance into everyday practices.
  • Strong stakeholder engagement skills across technical and non technical audiences.
  • A collaborative leadership style with a focus on capability uplift and continuous improvement.
