WorkCover Queensland is entering an exciting new chapter as we deliver on our 2030 Strategy and embark on an enterprise‑wide transformation designed to uplift capability and create lasting impact.

We’re seeking an experienced Senior Risk Specialist to join our Risk Division — a trusted advisor with deep operational risk expertise who partners effectively with the business and leads meaningful uplift in organisational risk maturity.

In this pivotal second line role, you’ll deliver independent advice, constructive challenge, and strategic partnering with first line to strengthen risk capability and culture, embed our frameworks and enable consistent, risk‑aware decision making across the enterprise. This is your opportunity to shape strategic and operational outcomes while actively advancing WorkCover’s risk maturity uplift program and building a more resilient, future‑ready organisation.

What You’ll Do

  • Share and embed the Risk divisions priorities, connecting them to the WorkCover vision, mission and five-year roadmap.
  • Role model the WorkCover values, recognising and reinforcing desired behaviours in others.
  • Partner with business leaders to uplift risk maturity, improve risk ownership, and strengthen application of WorkCover’s risk frameworks, standards and policies.
  • Provide high-quality risk advice and constructive challenge to support strategic, operational and project decision‑making.
  • Support the implementation of risk frameworks and policies throughout the delivery of our risk uplift program
  • Provide support to Line 1 in identifying and assessing incidents, issues, risks and controls in accordance with our risk maturity roadmap
  • Guide business teams in the effective use of risk tools and methodologies, offering coaching, training and practical support as needed.
  • Identify emerging risks, systemic themes, and cross-functional issues
  • Maintain strong stakeholder relationships to enable open discussion and early escalation of risks, opportunities and control weaknesses.
  • Ensure that first‑line risk information is complete, accurate and up to date within the risk system
  • Provide insights to support enterprise risk reporting for ELT, Board and Risk Committee
  • Support continuous improvement of risk processes by sharing practical business insights with the Frameworks & Reporting team to inform future refinement or simplification.

What We’re Looking For

You’re a trusted, relationship‑focused risk professional who can influence, guide, and constructively challenge at all levels. You bring hands‑on experience uplifting risk maturity, embedding frameworks, and building capability across complex environments.

You manage competing priorities with sound judgment, allocate resources effectively, and balance business needs with regulatory expectations and risk appetite. You apply systems thinking, assess upstream and downstream impacts, and use strong analytical skills to turn complex risk information into clear, practical insights.

Confident and collaborative, you coach Line 1 teams, translate technical concepts into business‑friendly guidance, and enable consistent, high‑quality risk practices. Your communication and facilitation skills support effective risk conversations and help build a culture of confident risk ownership across the enterprise.

What You’ll Bring

  • Demonstrated experience in risk partnering, operational risk management, or Line 2 advisory roles.
  • Experience leading and/or actively contributing to organisational risk uplift, culture improvement or maturity initiatives.
  • Proven experience applying risk frameworks and conducting risk-based assessments (RCSA, incident/issue, change risk).
  • Experience influencing and collaborating across diverse stakeholder groups in a complex operating environment.
  • Knowledge of insurance, financial services, regulatory or public sector environments (desirable).
