Our organisation is made up of individuals who collaborate and seek to engage others, working together as One Team. We embrace diversity and value people who bring personal energy and authenticity to everything they do. If you’re someone with a strong values-oriented compass and you want to achieve sustainable outcomes, you will find a great community at WorkCover.

About the Opportunity: Principal Cloud Engineer

WorkCover is entering an exciting phase of growth and innovation, scaling not only our cloud footprint but also how we lead and deliver platform engineering across the organisation. As Principal Cloud Engineer, you’ll play a pivotal role in shaping the technical future of WorkCover by providing cloud engineering expertise and supporting the design and delivery of critical initiatives. You will drive the development of secure, reliable, and compliant cloud services, define platform patterns, cloud engineering standards, and tools, and enable cloud engineers to deliver consistent, fast, and secure outcomes.

In this role, you’ll have exposure to the full cloud lifecycle, from architecture and automation to deployment, monitoring, and optimisation, and you’ll influence how teams work together, adopt modern practices, and deliver real-world solutions that support the organisation’s strategic goals. You’ll also foster a culture of collaboration, learning, and technical excellence, guiding others through mentorship and leading by example in shaping WorkCover’s platform capabilities for the future.

In this role, you will translate strategy into action by:

  • Leading enterprise AWS management and architecture, such as structure, security, networking, and operational governance.

  • Driving EKS and container strategies, including Kubernetes orchestration and container lifecycle management.

  • Shaping platform engineering and automation, such as infrastructure-as-code, CI/CD pipelines, and scalable cloud-native patterns.

  • Ensuring security, compliance, and governance, including identity management, encryption, WAFs, SIEM platforms, and cloud networking standards.

  • Collaborating across digital, architecture, and business teams to align cloud capabilities with long-term organisational goals.

A bit about you:

  • You are a senior cloud expert with an extensive track record in cloud and software engineering, with a strong understanding of cloud security, governance, automation, and cost optimisation. Deep AWS knowledge is highly advantageous.

  • You are hands-on in delivering resilient architectures, cloud-native workloads, and automation pipelines using Terraform, CloudFormation, CDK/Ansible, and GitHub (CI/CD).

  • You have experience with containers and orchestration (Docker, Kubernetes, ECS/EKS) and monitoring/observability tools such as CloudWatch or Datadog.

  • You thrive in technical depth, while thinking strategically, balancing hands-on delivery with broader architectural vision.

  • You are a natural mentor, enjoy collaborating across functions, and can communicate complex technical information clearly, translating technical decisions into real-world value for the organisation.

A bit about us:

The Cloud Engineering team is a close-knit group who enjoy solving complex problems together and making cloud platforms work seamlessly for the business. We work side by side with developers, architects, security specialists, and business teams, and we thrive on collaboration. Whether it’s brainstorming how to tackle a tricky migration, refining platform standards, or helping others lift their cloud capability, we’re at our best when we work as one team.

Working in a collaborative team environment within a supportive and engaged organisation, you’ll enjoy a hybrid work model, access to personalised learning and development opportunities and the holistic support of our health and wellbeing program. We offer industry competitive salaries, a generous superannuation scheme (including co-contribution) and study assistance.
