About the Opportunity: Cyber Security Manager – Resilience
WorkCover is entering a new chapter, with a renewed strategic focus and strong executive leadership guiding our organisation's 2030 Strategy. Reporting to the Chief Information Security Officer (CISO) and as part of the CISO Group Leadership Team, you will lead the Resilience function, ensuring WorkCover can anticipate, respond to, and recover from cyber incidents while strengthening organisational security maturity.
This key role blends strategy, operational excellence, and people leadership. You will guide resilience initiatives, embed secure-by-design principles across enterprise transformation, and shape the cyber security roadmap, driving continuous improvement and aligning strategies to business priorities.
Your influence will extend beyond technology into culture, training, awareness, and industry engagement. You will champion a cyber-resilient culture across the organisation, work closely with senior leaders, and actively represent WorkCover in sector forums, panels, and industry groups. With strong presentation skills and an engaging, influential style, you’ll inspire trust, foster security-conscious behaviours, and help position WorkCover as a trusted, secure partner for Queensland employers and injured workers.
In this role, you’ll translate that vision into action by:
- Leading the Resilience function, developing and delivering the cyber resilience framework, roadmap, and initiatives that drive measurable maturity improvements across people, process, and technology.
- Embedding secure-by-design principles and proactive resilience strategies across business operations, adapting approaches to evolving organisational priorities.
- Overseeing incident response, scenario testing, and lessons-learned programs, ensuring organisational preparedness and continuous improvement.
- Leading cross-functional and unconventional initiatives beyond traditional cyber team remits, mentoring cyber talent, building stakeholder relationships, and fostering a culture of professional growth and excellence.
- Representing WorkCover in industry forums, advocating for best-practice cyber resilience, and managing risk, budgets, and vendor relationships to deliver sustainable outcomes.
A bit about you:
You are a strategic cyber leader who thrives in ambiguity, adapts quickly, and delivers tangible results while shaping long-term resilience strategies. You’re comfortable operating without a tightly defined role scope and can flex to meet evolving organisational priorities. You combine a technical foundation with broader leadership, advocacy, and people influence. You’re equally comfortable speaking to executives, industry groups, and technical teams, and you naturally enjoy being the outward-facing voice of resilience.
You will also bring:
- Tertiary qualifications in cyber security, IT, or a related field, plus certifications such as CISSP, CISM, or CISA, with 10+ years’ IT/cyber security experience, including leadership and/or consulting/advisory roles.
- Proven success delivering measurable cyber maturity uplift and aligning resilience strategies with business objectives in financial services, insurance, or professional services environments.
- Deep knowledge of security frameworks (NIST 2.0, ISO/IEC 27001, ACSC Essential 8) and regulatory requirements (Privacy Act, Cyber Act), with hands-on experience in policy development, exercises, drills, and incident simulations.
- Strong presentation, influence, and negotiation skills, with the ability to lead internal and external conversations, engage stakeholders, and advocate for best-practice cyber resilience.
- Flexible, agile, and adaptable mindset, capable of leading cross-functional or unconventional initiatives that sit outside traditional cyber team remits.
