We’re looking for a highly skilled Senior Taxation Accountant to join the Finance team on a 9-month Fixed Term Contract.
This is a critical role responsible for ensuring full compliance with taxation legislation, delivering expert guidance across complex tax matters, and overseeing the accurate and timely fulfilment of all WorkCover’s taxation obligations.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage the preparation and review of all direct and indirect tax obligations such as income tax, FBT, payroll tax, GST, PAYG, and stamp duty.
- Ensure compliance with Australian tax laws including the National Tax Equivalent Regime (NTER), GST Act, and FBT legislation.
- Oversee WorkCover and other statutory tax reporting requirements, including supporting tax effect accounting and preparation of financial statement disclosures under AASB 112.
- Provide specialist taxation advice on business transactions by monitoring and implementing changes in tax legislation and assess their impact on the organisation.
- Develop and maintain tax risk management frameworks and technical manuals.
- Identify tax risks and implement controls to mitigate them.
- Partner with internal stakeholders, auditors, consultants, and government bodies to achieve compliance and reporting outcomes.
- Support and coach colleagues to strengthen organisational tax knowledge and lead process improvement initiatives.
About you
- CPA/CA qualification and tertiary qualifications in commerce, business, or accounting (mandatory).
- 5+ years’ experience in taxation, either from chartered or corporate environments (insurance/financial services experience highly regarded).
- Excellent knowledge of taxation legislation and its practical application.
- Strong analytical, planning, and problem-solving skills, with the ability to meet deadlines.
- High-level written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to prepare technical papers and liaise effectively with stakeholders.
- Strong Excel and financial systems experience, with the ability to learn new systems quickly.
