WorkCover Queensland is entering an exciting new chapter, guided by a renewed strategic focus and strong executive leadership shaping our 2030 Strategy. We’re embarking on an enterprise-wide transformation to strengthen our impact and continue making a positive difference in people’s lives.

We’re seeking a Senior Payroll Specialist to join our People Group, where you’ll play a crucial role in ensuring accurate and timely payroll processing for our valued workforce. In this role, you’ll manage complex end-to-end payroll operations while driving continuous improvement initiatives that support our people, organisation, and transformational journey — all while living our values: delivering with heart, owning the outcome, unlocking what’s possible, and working best together.

What You’ll Do

In this hands-on end to end specialist role, you’ll:

  • Process and manage fortnightly payroll and out-of-cycle adjustments with precision and timeliness.
  • Oversee employee lifecycle workflows including setup, changes, terminations, and leave.
  • Deliver end-of-month, end-of-year, and ad-hoc payroll reporting.
  • Manage Single Touch Payroll submissions and reconciliations.
  • Interpret and apply awards, certified agreements, and salary packaging options.
  • Provide expert advice to managers and employees on payroll-related matters with empathy and clarity.
  • Maintain payroll systems and contribute to process improvements by unlocking what’s possible.
  • Support remuneration reviews and certified agreement increases.

What We’re Looking For

You’re a passionate payroll professional who takes pride in delivering a seamless pay run. You thrive in complex, fast-paced environments and bring technical payroll expertise, advanced Excel know-how and a strong customer focus. Collaborative by nature and open to change, you look for smarter ways to work and contribute to process improvements that make a real difference.

What You’ll Bring

To succeed in this role, you’ll have:

  • 3 + years’ experience in end-to-end payroll processing, ideally in a large organisation.
  • Strong knowledge of payroll legislation, awards, certified agreements, and ATO requirements.
  • Advanced Excel skills (essential)
  • Experience with TechnologyOne payroll systems (highly desirable) or the ability to learn new finance systems.
  • Excellent communication and customer service skills.
  • A proactive approach to problem-solving and process improvement.
  • A formal payroll qualification such as a Diploma in Payroll Management (desirable).
