Join us as a Software Engineering Lead on a 12-month maximum term contract and play a key role in shaping the future of our technology landscape. Lead a talented team, champion modern engineering practices, and deliver innovative solutions that keep Queenslanders working 

What you’ll do 

  • Provide technical and people leadership for our software engineering capability, fostering a culture of innovation and collaboration.  

  • Lead a team of software engineers to maintain and enhance the systems powering WorkCover Queensland’s insurance business.  

  • Drive strategic technical guidance and champion best practices in software development, architecture, and security.  

  • Collaborate with product managers, architects, and stakeholders to deliver solutions aligned with business objectives and modern engineering standards.  

  • Oversee development standards, services, and tools that enable consistent, reliable, and secure delivery.  

  • Guide solution architecture with a focus on microservices, API-first design, and cloud-native capabilities.  

  • Lead initiatives to reduce technical debt, implement secure-by-design principles, and accelerate delivery through automation and CI/CD.

You combine deep technical expertise with strong people leadership, enabling you to mentor, inspire, and deliver outcomes that matter. Collaboration and strategic thinking are at the heart of your approach; you listen, connect, and create an environment where diverse perspectives shape smarter solutions. 

You’ll bring: 

  • Tertiary qualifications in IT, Computer Science, or Software Engineering (desirable).  

  • 10+ years of experience in software engineering, with proven success delivering enterprise solutions across cloud platforms.  

  • Advanced, hands-on experience with modern technologies—ideally Java, Oracle, AWS—and strong knowledge of microservices and API architecture.  

  • Demonstrated technical leadership and experience managing software engineering teams to deliver complex projects.  

  • Expertise in agile delivery methodologies and modern SDLC practices.  

  • Strong understanding of cloud-native capabilities and experience transitioning applications to cloud environments.  

  • Ability to communicate complex technical concepts clearly to diverse stakeholders.  

  • A proactive approach to innovation, including leading proof-of-concepts and solving business challenges through technology.  

  • Strong coaching and mentoring skills, fostering collaboration and continuous improvement.  

  • A growth mindset and eagerness to learn emerging technologies.
