We are seeking an IT Release & Environment Lead to play a pivotal role in strengthening our release practices, environment stability and operational readiness across the organisation.
About the Role
Reporting to the Manager, Change & Transition, the Lead, Release & Environment guides and supports team members while partnering closely with delivery, engineering, testing and operational teams. You will ensure that technology releases are well‑planned, low‑risk and aligned with business experience expectations, and that our test and pre‑production environments are stable, validated and ready for delivery activities.
This hands‑on role sits at the intersection of release management, environment management and operational readiness, offering broad visibility across the enterprise. It is ideal for someone who enjoys balancing technical depth with strong stakeholder engagement.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead operational readiness for all technology releases, ensuring services are stable, supportable and production‑ready.
- Plan and oversee releases and deployments to minimise risk and protect customer experience.
- Maintain high environment stability through effective environment refreshes, configuration updates, data validation, and testing support.
- Work with engineering, operations, delivery and testing teams to confirm release readiness against established criteria.
- Develop and embed clear frameworks, standards and ways of working for operational readiness and release governance.
- Identify release and operational risks early and drive effective mitigation strategies.
- Facilitate readiness reviews and lessons‑learned sessions to continuously improve release quality.
- Strengthen documentation, monitoring and knowledge‑transfer practices between project and operational support teams.
- Promote shared ownership, accountability and operational excellence across technology teams.
About You
You’re a technically credible expert who understands what it takes to deliver reliable releases within complex enterprise environments. You are comfortable navigating fast‑moving change, balancing risk with delivery, and engaging effectively across a diverse group of stakeholders.
You bring:
- Extensive experience in release management, environment management or operational readiness within enterprise settings.
- Strong understanding of DevOps and CI/CD practices, with hands‑on experience using modern toolsets such as Azure DevOps, GitHub Actions, Jenkins or GitLab.
- Proven ability to manage multiple environments and ensure stability, data integrity and release readiness.
- Practical understanding of cloud platforms, containerisation (e.g. Docker, Kubernetes) and infrastructure‑as‑code approaches.
- Excellent planning, communication and stakeholder engagement skills.
- A collaborative leadership style with a strong focus on continuous improvement and customer outcomes.
- Tertiary qualifications in IT, Computer Science or related fields; industry certifications (e.g. ITIL, DevOps, cloud) are highly regarded.
